Frequently asked questions about our electrical work
Service areas, licensing, hours, and how a job actually gets scoped. Anything not covered here, ask us directly.

General
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, and serve all of Abuja, including Wuse 2, Wuse, Gwarinpa, Central Business District, Guzape, Asokoro, Maitama, Katampe, Garki, Jabi, Utako, Lokogoma, Apo, Life Camp, Kubwa, Lugbe, Jahi, Kado, Idu and Mabushi. Project work extends to neighboring states and wider Nigeria depending on scope.
Are you licensed and certified?
Kell Electricals Limited is a registered company (RC 1852579), led by engineers registered with COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria), and our work follows NEMSA (Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency) requirements. COREN registration belongs to our engineers individually; NEMSA is the regulator whose requirements our installations are built and tested to.
How do you keep an electrical installation safe?
Safety is built into every stage: the design is matched to the load, the wiring, circuit breakers and earthing are specified and installed to NEMSA requirements, and the installation is tested before handover. Where work needs it, we also check that protective devices are coordinated with the earthing system.
What are your business hours?
Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Saturday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Sunday: Closed. For genuine electrical emergencies outside these hours, call +234 814 020 5895 directly.
How do I get a quote?
Submit the form on our Contact page, call +234 814 020 5895, or message us on WhatsApp. We’ll come back with a scoped assessment. We don’t give rough estimates over the phone.
Services & scheduling
What services does Kell Electricals provide?
A full range of electrical engineering services: wiring and installation, panel repair and upgrades, solar and hybrid inverter systems, home automation, CCTV and security, generator installation and maintenance, industrial electrical systems, and scheduled preventive maintenance. The full list is on our Services page.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance, or only one-off jobs?
Both. We handle one-off installation and repair work, and we run the Kell AssetCare Programme: scheduled maintenance in four tiers (Essential, Professional, Advanced, Enterprise) with an asset register and a written report after every visit. See the Maintenance & AMC page for details; pricing is confirmed in your proposal.
Do you work on both residential and commercial projects?
Yes, and industrial too. Scope, documentation, and compliance requirements differ by property type, which is why we treat residential, commercial, and industrial work as distinct engineering problems rather than the same job at different sizes.
Can you work alongside my architect or contractor on a fit-out?
Yes. Commercial and office fit-out electrical work is a regular part of our scope, coordinated with architects, M&E consultants and the wider construction timeline.
Do you have examples of completed commercial electrical work?
Yes. For example, we delivered the complete electrical decking, conduit piping, wiring, and fixture installation and finishing for a cooperative society's building in Garki II, Abuja. See our Projects page for more recent work across residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
Emergency & safety
Do you offer 24/7 emergency call-outs?
We are not currently offering 24/7 emergency call-outs. WhatsApp and DM replies are available around the clock, so message us at any hour. For active hazards (sparking, burning smell, exposed live wiring), switch off at the main supply if it is safe to do so and contact us right away at +234 814 020 5895 rather than submitting the contact form.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Active hazards: sparking, a burning smell, exposed live wiring, or total power loss affecting safety-critical equipment. Recurring tripped breakers or a warm panel cover are worth calling about too, even if not urgent the same hour.
Is there an emergency contact outside business hours?
WhatsApp and DM replies are available around the clock, so you can reach us outside business hours on WhatsApp or by DM. You can also email emergency@kellelectricals.com. We are not currently offering 24/7 emergency call-outs.
Home Automation
Can automation be added to an existing property, or only new builds?
Both. New builds let us design the wiring and control layout together from the start, which is cleaner, but retrofitting smart lighting, climate, and access control into an existing property is a regular part of our scope too. It just needs a site assessment first to plan around the existing circuits.
Will a power outage disable the automation system?
Depends on the setup. Most smart lighting and control panels need power to function, same as any electrical system, so we discuss backup priorities (generator or inverter integration) as part of the design if outage resilience matters to you.
Do you work with a specific smart home platform?
We design the electrical and control-panel infrastructure to work with your chosen app or platform, so you aren't locked into one. Tell us what you're trying to control (lighting, climate, access, scenes) and we scope the electrical side accordingly.
CCTV & Security
How many cameras do I need?
Depends on the property and what you're trying to cover (entry points, perimeter, specific assets). We do a site survey and propose camera placement based on what actually needs covering.
Can I view footage remotely?
Yes. Remote viewing and alert setup on your phone or computer is part of a standard installation, alongside the NVR/DVR recording setup on site.
Can CCTV be integrated with gates or access control?
Yes, integration with automated gates and access control is a regular part of our security and automation scope. Mention it upfront if you want them working together.
Do you install electric fences?
Yes. Electric fence installation is part of our perimeter security scope, alongside automated gates, CCTV, and access control. We design and wire it as part of the same security system.
Solar & Energy
Do you sell solar panels, or only install them?
Both. We supply solar panels, batteries and inverters, and we do the installation and commissioning ourselves. We still run a load assessment before recommending or supplying equipment, because the right panel count and battery capacity depend on your actual consumption.
Pricing
How much does house rewiring cost in Abuja?
It depends on the property's size, current wiring condition, and how many circuits, sockets, and fixtures are involved. Rewiring a two-bedroom flat and a multi-storey house aren't comparable jobs. We don't quote a number without a site visit, since guessing risks under- or over-pricing the actual scope. Request a quote and we'll assess the property directly.
What do hybrid inverter systems cost in Nigeria?
Hybrid inverter and battery system pricing depends on inverter capacity, battery chemistry and bank size, and whether it's a backup-only setup or one designed to carry most of your daily load (see our guide on sizing a hybrid inverter system for why that distinction matters). We size and quote from a real load assessment.
How much does smart home automation cost?
It scales with scope. A few automated lighting circuits costs far less than whole-property lighting, climate, and access control on one platform. Retrofitting an existing property also typically costs more than wiring automation into a new build from the start. We scope and quote after understanding what you actually want to control.
Payments, warranty & contracts
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. Installation and project work needs a 70% mobilisation deposit before we buy materials or schedule the job. For contracts above ₦2,000,000 the balance is paid as 20% at first fix (or an agreed milestone) and 10% on completion and sign-off.
How long is a quotation valid?
Seven calendar days, unless the quote says otherwise. Material prices in Nigeria move with the exchange rate, so after that we re-check prices before confirming.
Are your prices inclusive of VAT?
No. Quotations and maintenance plan prices exclude VAT, which is added at 7.5% and shown separately on the invoice.
Do you give a warranty on your work?
Yes. Installation projects carry a 12-month workmanship warranty from practical completion and handover. Repairs carried out under a maintenance plan carry a 90-day workmanship warranty. Parts and equipment carry the manufacturer’s own warranty.
What happens if the job changes after it starts?
We agree every change in writing first through a Variation Order that shows the added cost and any effect on the timeline. Nothing extra is done on a verbal instruction alone.
Can I change my maintenance plan tier later?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at renewal, or mid-term with a pro-rated adjustment.
Can I get emergency help without a maintenance contract?
Yes. Pay-per-visit emergency call-outs are available, although contract clients are given priority. Emergency Response cover can also be added to a maintenance plan.
Do you work outside Abuja?
Yes. Travel costs are assessed and added for locations outside the FCT.
